SHAI HILLS RESOURCE RESERVE

Start your adventure with an early morning departure from Accra as we journey to Shai Hills Resource Reserve, a unique blend of wildlife, history, and culture. Located just an hour from Accra, this nature reserve is home to a variety animals including baboons, antelopes, zebras, ostriches, and an array of exotic birds. You might even spot fruit bats nestled high in the rocky cliffs.

Step back in time as you explore the ancient caves once used as hideouts and places of refuge during tribal conflicts. These caves, steeped in history, were once the sacred dwelling places of the Shai people, who inhabited the area before being displaced by the British in 1892. Their legacy still echoes through the reserve, from the rock art to remnants of daily life etched into the landscape.

The tour continues with a visit to the newly opened Museum of Natural and Cultural Heritage, a tribute to the cultures and traditions of the Shai people. Through engaging exhibits, you will gain insight into their unique way of life, cultural practices, and relationship with the land.

We will end the day with a 30 minutes peaceful and scenic cruise down the Volta River. Soak in the natural vegetation and hills surrounding the river. Enjoy lunch at Royal Senchi Resort before heading back to Accra.
