Begin your journey into the heart of Ashanti culture with a visit to Adanwomase Kente Village, where skilled weavers bring vibrant patterns to life using traditional looms. Discover the intricate process behind Ghana’s iconic Kente cloth, a symbol of royal heritage, woven by hand and passed down through generations.
Continue to a nearby cocoa farm, where you will learn about Ghana’s role as the world’s second-largest cocoa producer. Trace the journey of chocolate from the pod to production, and uncover the cocoa tree’s vital medicinal and economic significance.
Next, head to Ntonso Adinkra Village, home of the renowned Adinkra cloth, printed with symbols that carry deep cultural and philosophical meanings. Originally used for funerals, these hand-stamped textiles are now also worn for celebrations and ceremonies, reflecting centuries of wisdom.
In the afternoon, visit the Manhyia Palace Museum, once the official residence of Ashanti Kings (Asantehene). Explore the rich history of the Ashanti Kingdom, one of Ghana’s most powerful and organized tribes. The museum houses royal regalia, artifacts, and oral accounts of the Ashanti legacy. DAY 2: KUMASI – ACCRA
After breakfast, check out and begin your day with a visit to the historic Kumasi Fort and Military Museum. Originally constructed in 1820 by Asantehene Osei Tutu Kwamina to resemble the coastal forts built by European merchants, the fort was destroyed by British forces in 1874 and later rebuilt in 1897. Today, it houses military artifacts and tells the story of Ghana’s colonial and post-independence military history.
Your final stop is the revered Komfo Anokye Sword Site. According to legend, this mystical sword was planted in the ground over 300 years ago by Okomfo Anokye, the spiritual leader and co-founder of the Ashanti Empire, as a symbol of unity and peace. Despite numerous attempts, including one by Muhammad Ali in 1994, the sword has never been removed, solidifying its place as one of Ghana’s most sacred historical symbols.
