The tour continues to a cocoa farm, where you’ll experience the beginning of chocolate. Ghana is the second-largest producer of cocoa in the world, essential for chocolate manufacturing. You’ll learn about the medicinal and commercial importance of the cocoa tree.
Ntonso Adinkra Village
Ntonso is where the Adinkra cloth is made — a textile adorned with traditional symbols that carry deep meanings and proverbial wisdom.
While traditionally used for funerals, Adinkra cloth is now also being used for various ceremonies and cultural expressions.
Manhyia Palace Museum
Visit the Manhyia Palace Museum to explore the history and exploits of the Ashanti Tribe, one of the most powerful ethnic groups in Ghana.
The Manhyia Palace, which served as the official residence of Ashanti kings (Asantehene) until 1974, now houses treasured artifacts related to the Ashanti Kingdom. The Ashantis are the largest ethnic group in Ghana and were rulers of the region for centuries due to their well-organized society.
Disputes are still settled at the palace according to centuries-old customs, with the Asantehene holding the final authority.
Kumasi Fort / Military Museum
The Kumasi Fort was originally built in 1820 by Asantehene Osei Tutu Kwamina, modeled after coastal forts established by European merchants.
After being destroyed by British forces in 1874, it was rebuilt in 1897 using granite and brown soil transported from Cape Coast. Today, the fort serves as a Military Museum, showcasing the history of Ghana’s military efforts.
Komfo Anokye Sword Site
The legendary sword of Komfo Anokye was driven into the ground over 300 years ago to symbolize peace and unity within the Ashanti Empire.
According to legend, Komfo Anokye declared the sword immovable — and so it has remained ever since. Numerous attempts have been made to remove it, including one by Muhammad Ali in 1994, all without success.
